The Celebration of the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026

The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm and active participation at IA Ayurvedic Medical College, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in Association with NSS Cell, USTM on 21st June 2026 from 5:00 AM onwards.

The programme commenced with the arrival and registration of participants, faculty members, students, staff, and distinguished guests from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM. The dignitaries were warmly welcomed and felicitated by the organizing committee.

The formal session began at 6:00 AM with a brief introduction to the significance of International Day of Yoga, followed by the felicitation of guests. A welcome address was delivered by Dr. Rama Kanta Sharma, Principal, IAMC,USTM emphasizing the importance of Yoga in promoting physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, USTM addressed the gathering and highlighted the relevance of Yoga in achieving holistic health and fostering a healthy lifestyle among the youth.

Subsequently, participants witnessed the screening and telecast of previous International Day of Yoga speeches delivered by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. This was followed by the live telecast of speeches by the Hon’ble Minister of State for AYUSH and other dignitaries. The gathering also attended the live address of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, who reiterated the global importance of Yoga as a means to attain harmony and wellness.

The major highlight of the celebration was the practice of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM. The session was conducted under the guidance of experienced Yoga instructors, and all participants enthusiastically performed various Yogic practices, including asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, students, volunteers, and participants for their wholehearted support and cooperation. Thereafter, the National Song, “Vande Mataram,” was sung by all present, signifying unity and patriotism.

 

The event ended with group photography and the distribution of refreshments to all participants. The celebration successfully conveyed the message of adopting Yoga as an integral part of daily life for maintaining health and well-being.

Overall, the programme was conducted smoothly and proved to be highly informative, inspiring, and beneficial for all participants.
